Carl Maria von Weber is known as the “founder” of German Romantic opera, influencing many later composers like Richard Wagner. He made his biggest impact with “Der Freischutz,” which premiered in 1821. The Virginia Opera will perform “Der Freischutz” in Richmond this weekend at the Carpenter Theatre. The shows are tonight (Friday 2/17) at 8:00 p.m and Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Our good friend Principal Conductor & Artistic Advisor Adam Turner stopped by our 88.9 WCVE studios along with the male and female leads from the production, soprano Kara Shay Thomson (Agathe) and tenor Corey Bix (Max). We had a rather entertaining chat about Weber’s music and this weekend’s performances. Enjoy!
Yours in good music,
