Virginia Opera concludes its 2016-17 season with Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot” this weekend at the Carpenter Theatre in Richmond. Based on the ancient fable set in China, this story of the legendary Princess Turandot, so desirable that men risked their heads for her hand in marriage, weaves the quest for love with the ultimate consequences. Puccini’s score features one of the most famous opera arias of all time, “Nessun dorma,” sung by Derek Taylor. This production is directed by Virginia Opera’s beloved Lillian Groag (La Traviata 2015).
Virginia Opera’s Vice President of Central/Northern Virginia Operations Howard Bender stopped by our studios with singers Danielle Pastin (playing the role of Liù) and Ricardo Lugo (Timur) to discuss this weekend's show. Enjoy our chat!
