This fall 2017 IYE season opener is basically the 2nd set of a singular evening of music that was presented in conjunction with the Virginia Folklife Program, a perennially favorite part of the Richmond Folk Festival each year. Recorded in February of 2017, it’s led by Virginia’s Folklorist Jon Lohman, who gathered a potent group of performers around the venerable Sherman Holmes, the surviving member Christchurch, Virginia’s Holmes Brothers.
As the now infamous line from the film “Forrest Gump,” goes: “..life was like a box of chocolates, you never now what you’re going to get.” Well, on this week’s World Music Show (11/11), we could use that well worn adage to convey that we may not now what we’re going to hear.

My guest for our November segment is Gaelen McCormick, double bass player with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Gaelen joined the RPO in 1995, after holding positions with the Erie Philharmonic, the Binghamton Philharmonic and the Albany Symphony.
