The Virginia Arts Festival and Virginia Symphony Orchestra are joining the worldwide celebration honoring the life and legacy of legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein. Performances highlighting Bernstein's music will be held in Newport News, Norfolk and Virginia Beach during this year's festival.
The festival's Bernstein at 100 concerts, in Newport News on April 13 and Norfolk on April 14, focus on the composer's works for the concert hall. Then in May, the festival presents Bernstein on Broadway at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach.
JoAnn Falletta is the Music Director of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and in high demand as a guest conductor around the world. She had the unique opportunity to study with Bernstein in master classes while at the Juilliard School in New York City. I had the pleasure to talk with JoAnn about Bernstein and the upcoming performances. I hope you enjoy our chat and have the opportunity to catch one of the upcoming concerts.
Yours in good music,
