A Place of Our Own Distance Training: The Community Idea Stations’ Ready To Learn Program recognizes that early childhood professionals need access to a variety of comprehensive educational information and training that allows them to be qualified and skilled to provide quality child care for children in Virginia. We are pleased to announce that professionals can earn training hours by viewing a DVD of the award-winning series A Place of Our Own and completing a self-study packet.
PBS Teacherline: For anytime, anywhere learning, enroll in one of PBS TeacherLine’s engaging professional development courses. PBS TeacherLine offers 35 online courses over seven separate sessions to provide a flexible learning schedule for busy educators.
American Experience: (Grades 7-12) A documentary series that analyzes the people and events that have shaped America. The website allows you to watch full films online, download teacher’s guides, go behind the scenes to enrich your students’ learning.
Daily News Story–PBS NewsHour Extra: Teachers and students identify the who, what, when, where and why-it-matters of major national and international news stories. In partnership with PBS LearningMedia, we are proud to bring you the Daily News Story which takes the best of the PBS NewsHour news program and pairs it with discussion questions, lesson plans and stories developed specifically for students.
Mission US: (Grades 5-8) A website that offers multimedia interactive games set in different eras of U.S. history. Students role play as characters in the game to experience events and learn that history is about people who often made very difficult choices.
NOVA: (Grades 6-12) An award-winning source for standards-based classroom resources in science, technology and engineering.
NOVA Labs: A new digital platform where “citizen scientists” can actively participate in the scientific process. From predicting solar storms and designing renewable energy systems to tracking cloud movements and learning cyber-security strategies, NOVA Labs participants can take part in real-world investigations by visualizing, analyzing, and sharing the same data that scientists use.
PBS KIDS Interactive Whiteboard Games: Here is our collection of interactive whiteboard games for educators on PBS KIDS. Students will enjoy participating in these collaborative, fun and engaging experiences, while exploring curriculum from trusted programs such as Curious George, Super Why! and Arthur. Like our programs, all of our games are age-appropriate and vetted by educators.
