Regional Tourism: Ways You Can Make an Impact

Regional Tourism

What is the bigger tourist destination, Richmond or the Williamsburg/Virginia Beach complex? The answer may surprise you. This month’s Start the Conversation looks at tourism in the greater Richmond metro area. Host Gene Lepley uncovers lots of interesting facts with the help of guest panelists Christy Coleman, President and CEO of the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar, Jack Berry, President and CEO Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Matthew Perry, President and CEO, Riverside Outfitters.

Learn about the economic impact of tourism and how your role as an ambassador is a critical component of our region’s success. See how the James River and our location make us unique as a tourist destination. Hear some surprising statistics on who visits Richmond and why. After you’ve watched the show, weigh in with your comments and opinions.

You can watch the entire show below or tune in on Sunday, August 14 at noon on WCVE PBS and WHTJ PBS. A special question and answer session conducted after the filming of this show is also available here.

Questions & Answers Session

I viewed the August 14th "Start the Conversation" program. I found it very interesting and some what informative. You spoke about some programs I am not aware of. I would appreciate how I can get clearer information on the advantages possible, of the wonderful programs available.

I have been living in Richmond since 1997 and I am aware of some of the wonderful advantages in Richmond. I am pleased that the problem about the parking at the Capitol was being addressed. Some other areas of parking really needs to be addressed also. Especially for handy parking and ramps. It is difficult for me attending programs with my Mother who is now 100 yrs young and able to still get around. At the age of 71 I drive and don't have a handy-cap parking sticker. So some programs I can't take advantage of because of the difficulties with parking.

Please forgive me if I sound a little confused with the information spoken about on the program. I would appreciate help in this area.

Thank you, Dianna Gabay
