Shows like Super Why!, Word World, Curious George and Sid the Science Kid increase the odds that all children in our community succeed in school and in life. That’s one of the reasons as to why WCVW PBS is increasing its PBS KIDS line up.

The 2012 PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest has now ended.  Judging has also been completed and the winners for each of the grade levels will be announced soon.

Thanks to the support of the Virginia College Savings Plan and Studentpublishing.com, this year’s PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest was another great sucess.

D.W. Goes Mobile to Help Children Make Good Food Choices

The first app from the PBS KIDS GO! series Arthur – D.W.’s Unicorn Adventure for iPhone and iPod touch, is available now on the App Store. D.W.’s Unicorn Adventure encourages nutritious snacking for kids ages 4-6, and Arthur fans of all ages. In the app, players have the opportunity to help Arthur’s little sister D.W. save a lost unicorn using the power of healthy foods.

Get Ready For Fun...Get Ready To Learn!

During the month of March, our Ready To Learn Program will be out and about in many locations in Central Virginia. We would love to have your family join the fun. Here are some of the details:

Thursday, March 1, we will be at the Virginia Discovery Museum in Charlottesville at 10:30 a.m. for an engaging story time. An interactive, hands-on activity along with a free children’s book will be given to each child. This activity is appropriate for 3-5 year olds and is free with admission to the museum.

Ice Age Death Trap, a one-hour NOVA-National Geographic program about the fossil find, will premiere on WCVE PBS / WHTJ PBS Wednesday, February 1, 2012.  The television special follows scientists as they race against time to uncover this unique site packed with astonishingly well-preserved bones of mammoths, mastodons, and other giant extinct beasts, opening a vivid window into the vanished world of the Ice Age.
