Join the Convention of World Music

Minyeshu

Ok, I'll admit it. That headline is just a clever ploy to get you to read this week's missive about The World Music Show (9/8). I mean, it doesn't hurt to be topical right? But when you think about it, what could be better than a group of people getting together to state the following platform: We like to hear music from around the globe! And we will not rest until sounds from every corner of this fine planet are heard!

This Week’s Secret Word: Longevity

Los Lobos

There used to be a time when musicians, particularly some well known Rock n' Rollers, sang about wanting to die before they got old; or they captured youth and music in such a way as to think that they were center of the universe. Ah, youth. On this week's World Music Show (9/1), we'll take that theme and turn it on it's head. We'll feature at least six bands and musicians who have deftly defied this axiom and have been able to profit--both musically, and albeit, financially (I guess.

No End of Summer Doldrums Allowed

Tinariwen

With every change of season or move toward a big event, such as school starting, there always seems to be a lull that precedes such a pending cross-over. Now that lull--if we're strictly talking about school starting--seems to come from one faction (namely the kids going) as opposed to the europhia from the other faction (namely, the parents). But a change in season can bring about the same results. It's with this conundrum that I base this week's World Music Show (8/25) around.

Classics! The Blues Legends You Love--and More Bad Movies!

The Navy vs. the Nightmonsters Poster

Join us for some primary blues education and more silly movie stuff this week on Time for the Blues (8/26/12) as Henry and I will play nothing but "Classic" blues by the most legendary names! It's a great way to start being a blues fan!

Twofers with a Kicker! Our Embarrassing Old Cars--Like This One!

Plymouth Volare

Check out Time for the Blues this week (8/19/12) as we pull out an old radio trick, "Twofers" and wax nostalgic over our long list of seriously embarrassing cars! See this one? Anyway, we'll play two tracks from some great new releases by Li'l Ed and the Blues Imperials, Muddy with the Stones from '81 and Richmond's own Li'l Ronnie and the Grand Dukes! Don't miss it!

Spinning the Wheel O' Songs!

Serge Gainsbourg

I love the randomness of things. Whether it's from a surprise encounter or from an unexpected gift left on your desk, having random things happen keeps your senses alert and alive. So, on this week's World Music Show (8/18/12), I'll once again drag out the proverbial spinning songbook, AKA, the Wheel O' Songs, in order to provide you (and me) with the thrill of the unknown.

Driver Killed in 288 Crash

Northbound route 288 was closed at U.S. 60 for four hours Monday after a crash, including a tractor-trailer and a Jeep.

An Odyssey of Beats

Tita Lima

Get ready, because on this week's World Music Show (8/11), the thumps, bumps and rhythms of worldy beats are going to fill your speakers. That's right, whether you're listening to the show on a fine-tuned stereophonic gizmo, or you're dialed up via your clock or car radio, you're going to want to turn that volume up just a hair past where you normally may listen.

Spoiler Alert: There is Good Music Coming

Michael Kiwanuka

Alright, I'm sure you've heard this before. In fact, what I'm about to say could put me in league with various nefarious salespeople who either push placebo medicines or schlocky automobiles. Here it is: This week's World Music Show (8/4) is going to be fantastic. Really, it will be. And perhaps I'm doing myself, and you the listener, a diservice. I mean, me saying my show is "fantastic" is not an understatement.

It's Our 106th Anniversary!

Isn't that a cool cover?
