WCVE Public Radio broadcasts “Virginia General Assembly's Bicentennial of the War of 1812: A Symphonic Tribute”

High school students, their teachers and members of the public will join members of the House of Delegates and the Senate of Virginia for this special afternoon concert performance at Richmond CenterStage. WCVE Public Radio will re-broadcast the concert following the State of the Commonwealth address and news from NPR.

Inspiration for this special performance on January 11, 2012, the opening day of the 2012 Virginia General Assembly, comes from the bicentennial commemoration of the War of 1812, and the celebration of the writing of our national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. The concert will feature music written in and around 1812, including the 1812 Overture, to celebrate freedom, reflect upon times of conflict, and symbolize cultural and national pride.

The program includes:
Beethoven - Symphony No. 9, Ode to Joy
Beethoven - Symphony No. 3, III
Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture
Coleridge-Taylor - Danse negre
Marques - Danzon No. 2
Gould - Star Spangled Overture

AIRS:  January 11 at 8:00 p.m. on WCVE Public Radio

Wow! Thank you WCVE for rebroadcasting this remarkable performance by the Richmond Symphony and thanks to the organizers for making this happen. It's great that high school students can experience music like this (so well performed) to commemorate this historical event. I hope that you will rebroadcast this again so I can have some friends tune in.
