WCVE Forum May 8: America Abroad

Joined by War

Topic: “Joined by War: A Conversation Between Afghans and Americans” For most people, the bombs and bloodshed seem a world away, but for Afghans and American soldiers and civilians, the conflict is a daily reality.

And it’s been a reality for a long time. The typical American third-grader has lived her or his entire life in a world where US troops have been fighting in Afghanistan. Now, for the first time, live audiences in both countries get to talk to each other about living with war.

In this special town hall program, an audience in Washington speaks with local Afghans in Kabul about life in the battlefield, and an Afghan audience speaks with Americans about what it’s like fighting in a foreign land.

This is a joint production of America Abroad, WAMU, Washington, and Radio Killid Afghanistan.

Tune in to WCVE Public Radio for WCVE Forum each Sunday at 6:00 PM.

Each month America Abroad takes you on an hour-long audio journey deep inside an international news story. Field reports from around the globe give voice to those living in the middle of the critical issues of the day, and historical segments featuring archival audio and discussions with key policy makers provide crucial context. Co-anchors Ray Suarez and Deborah Amos deliver this unique mix of past and present to give listeners the whole story of what’s happening in the world and what it all means. The show is produced by America Abroad Media.
