Smashing Bridges and Dropping Eggs: Celebrate Engineering
Want to be part of the Engineering Excitement this weekend? Sunday, February 10th from noon to 5:00 p.m., hundreds of middle and high school students will converge on the Science Museum of Virginia to compete in the Egg Drop and Bridge Building Competitions. This annual event is sponsored by the Richmond Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Richmond Joint Engineer's Council. You’ll get to see creative designs and problem solving from across Virginia. Which egg or bridge will survive this year?
The challenge for the Egg Drop is to design a container that will prevent a raw egg from cracking once it is thrown from the top of a 5 story stairwell. The challenge for the Bridge Building Competition is to build the strongest bridge you can, one that can withstand many pounds of force and build it out of 2 ingredients -popsicle sticks and glue.

I'm fond of these types of events and competition since I adore young minds that possess exemplary skills on a specific field especially on science and engineering. These kids are our future, and it’s amazing to see how they work to accomplish a goal.
This event will be an impressive activity for student engineers who wish to develop their own bridge design through using some materials as a sort of sketch structure for their project and this will enable the participants to show and share their talents in terms of bridge engineering and some other related engineering skills.
