Share Your Story When StoryCorps Comes to Lewis Ginter

StoryCorps is coming to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden March 15, 16 and 17, and you can be a part of it! The national oral history project, one of the largest of its kind, records and preserves community stories and has millions of listeners through broadcasts on WCVE Public Radio’s Morning Edition and its website: www.storycorps.org.

The visit to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is a gift from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The IMLS and the White House recently recognized Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden as one of the country’s top five museums with a National Medal. One interview from each of the medal winners will be edited and posted to the Institute for Museum and Library Services’ website.

The StoryCorps interviews at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will focus on how the Garden has impacted lives and the community. Interviews will consist of 40 minutes of uninterrupted time for meaningful conversation between two people who know each other. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is making this opportunity available to the community.

Through February 15, the Garden is inviting you to share your story, written in 500 words or less, to be considered for one of the interviews. Those selected will be notified by February 22. Upon completion, each interviewee will receive a broadcast-quality CD of the interview and a copy will be archived at the Library of Congress.

A Garden Membership will also be offered to those who submit their stories and are selected for a StoryCorps interview. If you are already a Garden Member, your membership will be renewed.

If you are interested in submitting a story for consideration, go to lewisginter.org. The link to the submission form is in the upper right-hand corner of the homepage.
