Save the Date! Pledge September 19-20 and Help Us Earn Up to $30,000 in Bonuses

The first 36 hours of our WCVE Public Radio membership campaign coincides with the Amazing Raise, a 36 hour online giving challenge sponsored by the Community Foundation. Starting at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 19 through 6:00 p.m. on Thursday September 20, your donation can help the Community Idea Stations earn some extra money - and the more donors who participate before 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, the better our chance of winning a bonus.
Your donation of $50 or more could help us earn $20,000 from the Community Foundation. Here's how you can help:
- Starting on Wednesday September 19, visit ideastations.org/membership.* During the 36 hours of the Amazing Raise, your contributions will count towards cash bonuses that the station can earn.
- Donate at least $50 with your credit card. Your donation will be credited to us AND it will help us qualify for the bonuses. Donations made during the Amazing Raise must be made via credit card. (and note - the station won't get extra credit if you make two separate $50 donations, each donor must be unique)
- Tell your friends! Share the link ideastations.org/membership on your Facebook, twitter or other social media site. Email it to your friends. If we engage the most donors or if we amass our first 50 donors quicker than the other participating non-profits, we can earn some great matching grants.
- Act quickly - the window of opportunity is short, so make sure you get your donation in between 6:00 a.m. on September 19 and 6:00 p.m. on September 20.
But wait! There's more! Super bonus: one of our Commonwealth Circle families will match pledges during the Amazing Raise, up to $10,000. So your donation of $50 or more could actually help us earn an additional $30,000!!
As always, thank-you for your support! Every bit counts - and during these 36 hours, it counts even more.
*note - you can make your donations at any time, but only donations made during the 36 hours of the Amazing Raise help us qualify for these bonuses.
I would like to comment on all of the negativity regarding NPR's participation in the Amazing Raise. I would not even have known about it had NPR not participated. I did donate to WCVE but I ALSO used the opportunity to donate to other much smaller charities that I would not have donated to had it not been for all of the coverage NPR gave to the initiative. Thank you PBS/NPR for raising awareness...sure you benefited but so did many others!!!
I am thoroughly disappointed that you, as the "big dog" of public fundraising appeals in the Richmond area, found it necessary and seemingly appropriate to use your listener clout and media presence to impose yourself on this community fundraising effort.
Do you really think that it was fair to so many other smaller organizations with far less staff and experience devoted to fundraising as CPB/IS to do this and deprive them of a truly fair shot at the special prize opportunities that are part of this fundraising appeal?
Because of your (to me) bullying tactics in doing this, you will never receive another penny of contributions from me. Congratulations indeed. Radio IQ sounds better and better to me (and I'll be able to have continuing programming involving May-Lily Lee - no offense to Ms. Maxwell Reid).
Mr. Turner, as one who has given sacrificially to several of the small organizations working hard to raise funds during the Amazing Raise, I completely agree with you. What a low thing to do. And to use their wide broadcasting clout to drum up support. It's in extremely poor taste. I, too, will withhold all further funding from CPBS. It's sickening. I'm hoping CHAT wins this thing and puts this organization in its place.
Hi Mr. Turner,
We were encouraged by the Community Foundation to participate in the Amazing Raise because we have the power to bring more awareness to this community wide initiative. As a result, the Amazing Raise has far surpassed last year in community giving and we are pleased to have been helpful in that regard.
If Radio IQ is listed in giverichmond.com, I encourage you to donate to them during the Amazing Raise and help them in their fundraising efforts. In fact, check out all the non-profits participating this year. The Amazing Raise is a great way for you to support the non-profits you believe in.
Thank you,

If only my contribution could keep click and clack around awhile longer. What a truly bright spot in Saturday morning programming.
Those of us who have eschewed plastic appear to be prohibited from helping the station out in these efforts. Please ask your foundation supporters to expand eligibility to old fashioned "checks postmarked during the challenge period" or new-fangled PayPal / e-check / other electronic transmission methods.
Hi Doug - Thanks for your comment. You are right, the Amazing Raise campaign specifically focused on online credit card donations and avoided other types of payments, probably due to cost and limitations of staff.
Your suggestion is a good one (I'm guessing the Community Foundation, organizer of the Amazing Raise has received this suggestion from multiple participating organizations). Once the Amazing Raise is over, we will accept donations by check and other forms of payment for the rest of our FM membership drive - and we will be announcing some additional matching grant challenges.
