BBC Proms Presents Beethoven’s 9th

The world is turning to London this month as the 2012 Olympic Games kick off. Timed to end exactly one minute before the Olympics opening celebration begins, WCVE Public Radio will carry a live broadcast from the world’s largest classical music festival, the London-based BBC Proms!
Join Performance Today’s Fred Child, as he hosts the two-hour program featuring the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Beethoven’s triumphant Symphony No. 9. The broadcast will begin with a music-rich pre-game feature including highlights of the BBC Proms as well as brief colorful comments from Daniel Barenboim, Olympic athletes, and London locals.
The special airs live on WCVE Public Radio Friday, July 27 at 1:00 p.m.
Daniel Barenboim’s Beethoven cycle reaches its climax with a youthful take on the traditional annual Proms performance of the Ninth, perhaps the richest, most provocative statement in Western art music. An impressive team of soloists joins the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and the West–Eastern Divan Orchestra to project the finale’s inclusive vision of hope, reconciliation and hard-won triumph.
