Asperger’s Syndrome Topic of “The Courage to Succeed”
On Monday, April 18, WCVE Public Radio, in conjunction with Commonwealth Autism Service, taped a panel discussion on autism in front of a live audience at our Richmond studio. The panelists for this discussion included Erik Laursen, Ph.D., VP, Learning and Program Development at Charterhouse School (UMFS), Donald Oswald, Ph.D., Director of Research and Diagnostics at Commonwealth Autism Service, John A. Toscano, MSW, MBA, President and Chief Executive Officer, Commonwealth Autism Service, and a student with Asperger’s Syndrome as they discuss both the challenges facing young people with Asperger’s Syndrome in post-secondary education and the unique program they’ve developed within their partnership.
“The Courage to Succeed” was developed as a response to these challenges and is a prescriptive model to support students to achieve academic, social and vocational success.
The recording of “The Courage to Succeed” will be followed by a broadcast on May 1, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. on WCVE Public Radio as part of the WCVE Forum series. Audio of the program will be available after the airdate on the websites of WCVE Public Radio, Commonwealth Autism Service, and UMFS (United Methodist Family Services).
I am looking forward to the broadcast of "The Courage to Succeed." My daughter attended "Camp Courage" at Charterhouse last summer, and we are hoping she can be part of the Courage to Succeed program this fall. Camp courage was a wonderful experience for her.
