Tommy Edwards, a Richmond, Virginia singer and songwriter, had a No. 1 hit song in the 1958 entitled “It’s All in the Game.” He also charted numerous other hit songs as a performer and a writer. Produced by Randy Scott, a former radio personality at WLEE-AM, this documentary tells the story of this prolific local singer-songwriter.
“Remembering Richmond’s Tommy Edwards,” original aired on Thursday, January 4 on WCVE PBS /WHTJ PBS. The timing coincided with the 60th anniversary of his No. 1 hit, “It’s All in the Game,” which sold more than 3 million records and earned him appearances on “Your Hit Parade.” Edwards was the first African-American performer featured on the program, according to JET magazine. He also appeared on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”
