1,700 Fans Attend Downton Abbey Event

Fri, 01/03/2014 - 6:02pm -- WCVE

Many thanks to all who attended the Downton Abbey premiere of Season 4 last night (1/2/14) at the Byrd Theatre. Last year, the Community Idea Stations hosted one of the biggest premieres in the country and it was even bigger this year - with 1,700 folks in attendance. It was a truly amazing experience to see the first hour of the long awaited Season 4, together with so many Downton Abbey fans. We were impressed by how so many people enthusiastically - with smiles on their faces and great looking period clothing - braved the weather to come out.

Here at the station, we had many conversations about what a great show it was and how it was as good - or even better - than past seasons, and that we couldn't wait to see the two-hour season premiere on Sunday, January 5 at 9:00 p.m. on WCVE PBS/WHTJ PBS. The pictures and comments being shared on Facebook by the fans who attended have been wonderful to see as well.

Downton Abbey Event 3A special highlight of the evening was when folks sang “Happy Birthday” to us - at both shows - to help us kick off the Community Idea Stations’ 50th Anniversary year. The organist had a lot of fun playing for such an energetic crowd. We also enjoyed working with community partners like the Byrd Theatre, celebrating their 85th anniversary; Bygones who gave a discount to fans who bought some of their fabulous period clothing; and Can Can who sponsored a costume contest.
