Many thanks to all who attended the Downton Abbey premiere of Season 4 last night (1/2/14) at the Byrd Theatre. Last year, the Community Idea Stations hosted one of the biggest premieres in the country and it was even bigger this year - with 1,700 folks in attendance. It was a truly amazing experience to see the first hour of the long awaited Season 4, together with so many Downton Abbey fans. We were impressed by how so many people enthusiastically - with smiles on their faces and great looking period clothing - braved the weather to come out.
Here at the station, we had many conversations about what a great show it was and how it was as good - or even better - than past seasons, and that we couldn't wait to see the two-hour season premiere on Sunday, January 5 at 9:00 p.m. on WCVE PBS/WHTJ PBS. The pictures and comments being shared on Facebook by the fans who attended have been wonderful to see as well.
A special highlight of the evening was when folks sang “Happy Birthday” to us - at both shows - to help us kick off the Community Idea Stations’ 50th Anniversary year. The organist had a lot of fun playing for such an energetic crowd. We also enjoyed working with community partners like the Byrd Theatre, celebrating their 85th anniversary; Bygones who gave a discount to fans who bought some of their fabulous period clothing; and Can Can who sponsored a costume contest.
